KARACHI: Writing satire in a world of rom-coms and Shaan Shahid patriotic flicks is risky. Given his long history of socially relevant spoofs and comedies, Faisal Qureshi (The Oranchoo Man genius) leans towards satire. He struggled to cast his first major film.
FQ, Qureshi, and half the ensemble cast discussed their Eid release at Karachi’s upscale hotel. Fawad Khan, Kiran Malik, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Mani, Gohar Rasheed, Ayesha Omar, and Marhoom Bilal met with producer Shayan Khan to discuss their forthcoming project.
“Honestly speaking, I had no clue as to how much the budget would be, how many people should be aiming for,” FQ told The Express Tribune. “Thankfully, I narrated the script to several actors and all of them were thrilled to be part of the project.”
He first contacted Fawad Khan. After sending the script, Fawad didn’t respond for days. Maybe he didn’t enjoy the story. I never returned, don’t force people.” The Humsafar celebrity wanted to be in the film, but not as the lead.
I told Fawad it was a small job, but he insisted. We added more and his involvement wasn’t as significant as you’d see onscreen.” FQ exposed. Fawad was immediately drawn to Baksh.
“I found this to be an interesting character,” the Khoobsurat actor said. “It’s different. I’ve never portrayed a nasty comedy role.” Fawad said he accepted the script because it was different from his previous work. “While, I thought the script was good enough. I thought it would be great to make a Pakistani film like this. It was logical.”
Moreover, Mikaal Zulfiqar and FQ have a long history. “I am most pleased about Faisal’s cinematic debut,” the Sherdil star said. For years, we’ve considered making a film. We’re finally working on our ideal project.”
