Karachi: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) fiercely opposed the coalition government’s intention to hold elections on the outdated census on Monday.
In a news conference, MQM-P Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, whose party is a government partner, said Karachi’s population is around 30 million, up from 14.9 million in the 2017 census, and his party will not accept lower figures.
After Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the government would not notify the recently ended census because the results are not valid and the Election Commission of Pakistan requires at least four months to complete the delimitation process, the MQM-P leader pledged to oppose.
The census done every 10 years by law, but the last one controversial, thus a new one done to resolve reservations and delimitation.
Sindh and MQM-P opposed the enumeration. They demanded corrections and rejected the results.
MQM-P joined the government on the condition of a transparent census.
Moreover, Siddiqui said they had chosen the correct way against injustices and tried in every situation to preserve Karachi’s peace.
“MQM-P is the urban Sindh party, especially Karachi, and the London demonstration seems like a conspiracy.
While, MQM Pakistan helped its martyrs’ families. “I request people not to be a party against the peace of this city; linguistic discrimination has been done in the constituencies, and it should be fixed before the elections.”
Moreover, Siddiqui stated the assembly and government would finish in August. “We worked hard for city peace.” We want a census.”
While, He alleged dozens of MQM-London supporters are jeopardising city tranquilly. “And everywhere raised a voice for recovery.”
MQM-Pakistan’s leader said a few dozen people couldn’t defend the city. “Karachi is waiting for a transparent, bias-free census. Do justice to the urban areas of Sindh, fulfil the promises made.”
