WEBDESK: Ten dogs at District Dogs creche died in a terrible flash flood in Washington, D.C. It was very sad.
The owner, Jacob Hensley, worried about floods for a long time before it happened.
In April, Hensley sent a tweet to city leaders to warn them about the problem.
“After three dangerous storms last year, Rhode Island Avenue is already flooding, even though it hasn’t rained much so far. Could this storm drain please looked at? “There’s no reason for this to already backed up and cause a lot of worry if storms get stronger,” he wrote on Twitter.
Tragically, his fears came true four months later when heavy rains pounded the city and caused flash floods that flooded the nursery. The sad news was confirmed by Samantha Miller, a spokeswoman for the Humane Rescue Alliance. She said that 10 dogs had died because of the flooding.
Chris Schindler, vice president of field services at the Humane Rescue Alliance, said, “Our hearts go out to the families who lost beloved pets in yesterday’s tragic flooding in the Northeast,” according to the Washington Post.
District Dogs also posted about how sad they were on social media, letting people know how hard their staff and first responders had worked to save as many animals as possible.
Videos shared on social media showed how bad the flooding was, with water covering streets and covering part of cars. When talking about the terrible loss, D.C. Fire Chief John Donnelly said it was like losing a family member.
