Webdesk: Pakistani police officer Zaheer Ahmed given the prestigious Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Hero award for his work helping the Pakistani government adopt reforms to stop people from trafficked.
Antony Blinken, who is the US Secretary of State, gave the award at an event in Washington, DC.
This award given out every year to bring attention to the fight against human trafficking around the world.
The official also praised for his leadership in building capacity and his training programmes, which helped move Pakistan from the TIP Tier 2 watch list to Tier 2 in 2022.
Moreover, Ahmed used to be in charge of the Anti-Human Smuggling Unit at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). He is very enthusiastic about stopping all kinds of human trafficking.
While, In Pakistan, he helped people understand this world problem and how it hurts the most vulnerable people the most.
Moreover, His steadfast dedication and creative approach made it easier for Pakistani law enforcement and civil society to work together. This made it easier for TIP to recognised and for TIP victims to found.
As the head of the FIA’s Anti-Human Smuggling Unit, Ahmed was at the forefront of many training and capacity-building programmes for law enforcement, social welfare, and other partners to help avoid, identify, and help with TIP cases.
Ahmed worked with both local and foreign groups to stop human trafficking. He did this by making strategic partnerships and building a united front against it. His hard work was a big reason why policy changes and stronger judicial systems happened in Pakistan.
In 2022, Pakistan signed the UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress, and Punish Trafficking in Persons. This made possible by Ahmed and other government leaders in Pakistan.
