KARACHI: Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani said that political parties in the previous coalition government of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), including the PPP, knew that after they approved the census results, constituencies would be redrawn.
On Saturday, the Senate chairman told reporters that political parties should not have notified the census results after agreeing them at the Council of Common Interests if they opposed fresh delimitations.
He also informed the media that elections will held on time and that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would gravely conduct them.
Sadiq added the ECP would declare the date for general elections after fresh delimitations.
He added that the incoming caretaker prime minister, who was from Balochistan, will work to alleviate the province’s suffering. Chronic difficulties couldn’t resolved in 90 days.
Sanjrani said Balochistanis were hopeful because the new caretaker prime minister was from their province. The province needed more resources.
He claimed Balochistan senators spoke out on provincial concerns.
Sanjrani stated Dr. Arif Alvi’s term would finish on September 9, but he would stay president until the new president is elected.
He noted that the presidential election would follow the National and provincial assembly’ electoral college.
The Senate chairman also claimed caretaker governments were maintaining the democratic process.
