The Anjaana Anjaani actress told Dax Shepherd on his podcast that racism is a very common thing in the business.
She said, by way of her own example: “Many movies made me feel better. By putting on make-up and then turning up the lights. I still remember a certain song. It was called “Chitti Dudh Kudi,” which means “a girl who is as white as milk.” I’m not that, but I played her in the movie, and it made me feel a lot better about myself.
PC has also been in a lot of commercials about fairness in the past. But as time went on, she realised how bad these ads were for her.
“I remember that when I first started working in movies, I was called “dusky” and called “the dusky actress.” I was like, “What does that mean?” What does that mean? But since you are making a beauty brand, I did a commercial for a fairness cream. A big part of an actress’ career is building a beauty brand. And all the beauty brands sold those creams.”
