Islamabad: On Saturday, the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle in Lahore filed another case against top Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders for starting a fake campaign against state institutions on social media.

Some of the people put forward for the case, former finance minister Hammad Azhar, Musarrat Jamshed Cheema. Former National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri. Former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Senator Azam Swati. IPP’s Ali Zaidi, and former PTI senior vice president Fawad Chaudhry.

Officials from the FIA say that all of the leaders involved in the case asked to explain themselves last month. But none of them showed up. “Neither of them responded to this question.”

Because of this, a case has been opened against the suspects based on the proof and what they said. “Teams put together to catch the suspects,” the FIA said.

It’s important to note that Swati charged in multiple cases across the country. It is for his controversial tweets about top military officers.

The FIA first arrested the senator on October 13, 2022, after he posted a hateful and threatening message on his official Twitter account about the then-army head, the judiciary, and other state institutions.

After the attacks on military buildings like Lahore Corps Commander House (Jinnah House) and General Headquarters (GHQ), the PTI leadership charged with treason, terrorism, and other crimes.
