Punjab, 188 Women Killed in the Name of Honor in 2022

Lahore-Husnain Chaudhry: In the year 2022, lot of women faced faced heavy atrocities, with incidents of murder, rape, abduction, and violence in Punjab.

Culprits killed 188 women in the name of honor, according to an official document, from January 1st to December 31st, 2022. Of the 345 suspects involved in the killings, police arrested 276, while only 4 suspects have been punished.

From January 1st to October 31st last year, culprits abducted 7,397 girls. Of the 12,156 suspects involved in the abductions, police arrested 6,376, while only thirteen suspects have been punished.

Last year, there were 8,963 cases of women being taken from their homes in Punjab. Only 13 of the 15,208 suspects were punished by the courts. The police arrested 7,097 of the suspects.

The report says that in 2022, there were 1,662 cases of violence against women. Only 55 of the 3,101 suspects who were accused of being violent towards women were punished.

One hundred eighty-one cases of violence against girls were reported in the year 2021. 187 of the 255 suspects in these crimes were taken into custody, but no one was punished.

In 2021, a woman was set on fire. Eleven of the fifteen people suspected of doing it were caught, but no one was punished.

In Punjab in 2022, 39 cases of women being burned were reported, and 42 women were burned. There were 61 suspects, and 55 of them were caught, but no one has been punished yet.
