Lahore:
Due to monsoon rains and melting glaciers in the northern areas, water levels in Punjab’s rivers are rising significantly. According to the PDMA, a medium-level flood has been recorded in the Indus River at Kalabagh and Chashma Barrage, while Taunsa and Tarbela Barrages are facing low-level floods.
At Ganda Singh Wala in River Sutlej, water flow has reached 68,000 cusecs, maintaining a low-level flood situation. Similarly, rising water levels have been reported in Nullah Palkhu Cantt and Nullah Basantar, causing flood risks in the surrounding areas.
Officials stated that Tarbela Dam is currently 98% full, while Mangla Dam has reached 68% of its capacity.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has urged people to shift to safer places and avoid visiting riverbanks or water channels. Citizens have been instructed to stay away from rivers, canals, and ponds, and in case of any emergency, they may contact the PDMA helpline 1129.
