Islamabad: The alliance turned down the eight-person bench. Set up to hear cases against the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill 2023
With only a few hours left until the trial started, the coalition government issued a statement. The government refused the bench and calling the eight-member bench “controversial.”
In the statement, the coalition partners said they would fight any efforts to take away parliament’s power. As well as change its constitutional scope.
This week, a joint meeting of lawmakers passed the bill after President Dr. Arif Alvi sent it back. After that, Raja Amer Khan, Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain. Mohammad Shafay Munir, and others asked the top court to throw out the bill.
After this happened, an eight-member bench set up to hear petitions that said the “concept, preparation, endorsement, and passing of the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023 an act tainted with mala fide”
The bench, which will start hearing cases at 11:30 a.m., will be led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial and include Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Ayesha Malik, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Justice Shahid Waheed.
