Ceasefire with Russia to Take Effect Immediately After U.S. Announcement, Says Ukrainian President Zelensky

Riyadh, Washington, Kyiv (International News) – Russia and Ukraine have reached an agreement to ensure safe maritime navigation in the Black Sea and to refrain from attacking each other’s energy infrastructure.

According to foreign news agencies, the United States has been actively working to mediate an end to the Russia-Ukraine war, and significant progress has been made in this regard. The White House confirmed that the U.S. facilitated separate agreements with both Russia and Ukraine during negotiations in Riyadh. As a result, both nations have committed to securing maritime trade routes in the Black Sea and avoiding strikes on each other’s energy facilities.

Additionally, the U.S. has pledged to assist in restoring Russia’s access to global markets for agricultural and fertilizer exports. The White House emphasized that the United States will continue facilitating dialogue between the parties to achieve lasting peace.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump also confirmed the agreement, stating that Russia and Ukraine have reached a ceasefire in the Black Sea. “We have made significant progress on Ukraine, and there is also substantial progress on matters concerning the Middle East,” Trump remarked.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, responding to the negotiations in Saudi Arabia, stated that the U.S. and Ukraine had agreed that an immediate maritime ceasefire could be implemented. He confirmed that there was consensus on a possible ceasefire under the supervision of a third party.

Zelensky further asserted that the ceasefire agreement with Russia would take effect immediately following the U.S. announcement. However, he noted that Moscow has yet to provide any official clarification on the agreement. The Ukrainian president also warned that if Russia violates the ceasefire, Kyiv will request additional weapons and stricter sanctions against Moscow from the Trump administration.4o
