“Sidra’s Tragic Murder in Rawalpindi: Declared Unworthy to Live by a Jirga”

Horrific revelations have emerged regarding the brutal “honour” killing of 17-year-old Sidra in Pirwadhai, Rawalpindi, allegedly ordered by a jirga involving her own family members. Sidra had left her home after disagreements with her husband on July 11. On July 16, her family traced her to Muzaffarabad and brought her back to Rawalpindi.

The next morning, July 17, a jirga was held under the leadership of trader Ismatullah. The jirga declared that Sidra had “lost her right to live” by leaving home. Following the verdict, her father, brother, and uncle-in-law allegedly smothered her with a pillow.

The body was quietly buried with the help of a graveyard committee member and a gravedigger, who also erased all signs of the grave. In an attempt to cover up the crime, the perpetrators filed a fake kidnapping case and later submitted petitions to the court and Rawalpindi CPO claiming Sidra had married a man named Usman.

However, suspicious activities prompted the police to investigate. Upon checking graveyard records, the police arrested the gravedigger and the committee member. This led to the arrest of Sidra’s husband, father, brother, and other relatives. The case remains under active investigation.
