Karachi: Two people swept away by the flow of water while crossing the EBM Causeway. The road closed because the Malir River spilled because of the monsoon rains.
The city government had shut down both the Korangi Causeway and the EBM Causeway.
Even though the road from Mehmoodabad to Korangi closed, the two men tried to walk across it to get to Korangi. Later on, both taken away by the flow of water.
Lucky for them, both safe as long as they held on to a tree that came their way.
Due to the huge amount of water flowing, the police have put up barriers to stop people from going towards the EBM Causeway. They have also told people not to walk or ride motorbikes across the causeway.
The water level in the Malir River rose, so Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said that both causeways have stopped as a safety measure.
He said that the case would looked at carefully before any more decisions made.
Traffic redirected to the Shaheed-e-Millat Motorway, Qayyumabad from the Balochi Colony bridge. As well as to the Jam Sadiq Bridge from the Brookes Chowrangi.
Mohammad Naeem Shiekh, the chairman of Korangi Town, went to the Korangi Causeway with other town officials earlier. He said that a flood was likely because the Malir Dam was letting out a lot of water.
He said that the situation carefully and closely watched, and that equipment and people called in case of an emergency.
