“Unmasking Truth” Workshop Successfully Empowers Participants to Counter Disinformation

Lahore-Husnain Chaudhary: The Punjabi Complex, Qaddafi Stadium hosted the powerful one-day programme “Unmasking Truth: A Workshop on Constructive Journalism and Countering Disinformation”. The workshop, organised by senior journalist Fozia Ghani, successfully taught participants how to spot false narratives, foster critical thinking, and combat media distortion.

The programme addressed the growing issues of disinformation, misrepresentation, and fake news in the media. Moreover, Journalists, media professionals, educators, and community leaders shared a goad to work together to create a well-informed, inclusive, and resilient society.

Senior journalist Najam Wali Khan, Qamar-ul-Zaman Bhatti, Zafar Mehmood Chaudhary, Zarafshan, Husnain Ch., Ali Arslan, Atta Zaidi, Faisal Alvi, Shumaila Faisal, Tanzila, Naveed, Lydia Mihas, Fozia Ghani, and others spoke at the event.

The extensive workshop schedule covered important topics:

Understanding Pakistan’s Media Landscape and Disinformation: Participants examined Pakistan’s media landscape and disinformation’s real-world effects through fascinating case studies.

Constructive Journalism: To challenge negative narratives, constructive journalism promotes empathy, conversation, and understanding.

Media Literacy and Critical Thinking: Attendees learned to identify reputable sources, fact-check, and identify biases in the digital age.

Countering Hate Speech and Ethical Reporting: Responsible reporting and balanced journalism were stressed in the face of hate speech.

Building Resilience Against Radicalization: Participants examined radicalization’s causes and media’s role in counterterrorism. The seminar also highlighted resilience and open dialogue community activities.

Collective Action Planning: Attendees brainstormed media literacy campaigns and projects. Leveraging joint efforts to fight disinformation and promote peace was the focus.

Moreover, Participants pledged to apply their new skills and knowledge in their fields after the event. Certainly, Collaboration emphasised to develop a more knowledgeable, inclusive, and peaceful society.

The “Unmasking Truth” session was successful due to dedicated participants, knowledgeable facilitators, and smooth event organisation.

In Conclusion, Workshop organiser Fozia Ghani thanked attendees for their participation and achievement in closing.
