Islamabad: Former president and co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari on Friday urged all political parties to convene. Asd well as set a date for the country’s next general election.
Zardari stated on the Geo News programme “Capital Talk” that nationwide elections should conducted at the same time.
“The problem is not that we fear elections,” he said, his party had no objections to the election itself, only to its “timing”. The PPP leader insisted that his party initially entered the National Assembly with only 14 representatives.
The former president, emphasising the need for dialogue between all political factions, stated, “Our words carry weight when we speak with our allies.”
“Plan to remain in power until 2035”
Zardari stated “There is a domicile difference between Imran Khan and me”. It was in reference to the alleged favouritism shown to PTI leader Imran Khan by the judiciary and the establishment,
The PPP leader criticised Khan by stating that political workers conduct protests but do not pick up weapons. According to him, Khan was not a popular leader because he paid the people.
In response to a question about former army chief of staff General (ret.) Qamar Javed Bajwa. The PPP leader disclosed that he and PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had urged Bajwa not to seek Khan’s resignation.
He asserted that they chose to overthrow the PTI-led government because the deposed prime minister had devised a plan to remain in power until 2035 by “selecting an army chief of his choosing.”
