Webdesk: King Charles may have defied his mother by crowning Camilla Queen instead of Queen Consort, but things will change once Prince William becomes king.
According to the Mirror, the royal family has debated Camilla’s title if she outlives the monarch.
Camilla will be called “Queen Dowager” since she has no royal blood.
Queen Adelaide used this title in 1830, the publication reported.
The Queen Mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who married King George Vl, outlived the monarch. Camilla is the Dowager.
Diana, Princess of Wales, was Charles’ ex-wife. Camilla was known as the Duchess of Cornwall despite marrying Charles in 2005.
During the Platinum Jubilee, Queen Elizabeth said, “It is my sincere wish that, when the time comes Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”
A royal insider said earlier this year that using “Queen” in the Palace is simpler. Many feel Charles was trying to show respect for his wife.
“There’s a view in the Palace that Queen Consort is cumbersome and it might be simpler for Camilla to be known just as the Queen when the time is right,” the insider said.
