The government is ready for a CCI meeting

ISLAMABAD: The Council of Common Interests (CCI) will meet to discuss census findings before the government leaves office next month, The News reported.

The government may present the digital population census results before making a decision.

Three options follow the results.

If stakeholders find severe issues during the CCI meeting, the outcomes may cancelled or approved.
Delaying elections after delimitation may have effects.
A committee could arbitrate disagreements and develop a solution that pleases all stakeholders.
Each option has repercussions.

Digital census results may authorised if the general elections delayed.

If the CCI approves after the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led rule ends, elections could delayed by four to five months.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) may take a few months to delimit according to the CCI-approved census findings.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) conducted a Post Enumeration Survey (PES) in chosen blocks of 48 districts to validate the first-ever computerised population census data.

To verify this amount, the PBS chose 2,500 blocks nationwide. The last demographic census in Balochistan’s Baloch-populated districts yielded some intriguing results.

Rural Sindh complains of overcounting. Urban areas, particularly Karachi, complained about population undercounting.

The census extended, and the PES held. Its outcomes were unknown, causing dispute.

On Tuesday, official sources told The News that the PBS will prepare population census data until July 31, 2023, and then present them to the CCI in the first week of August.

From July 8, 2023, the Census Monitoring Committee (CMC) ordered PES. From July 8, the PES will held in the remaining three Kohistan districts and snow-bound areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
