Islamabad: Ashura (Muharram 9 and 10 — July 28 and 29) saw mobile communications suspended in numerous areas to avert unfortunate incidents.
The Ministry of Interior in Islamabad has requested that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) ban mobile services on Muharram 9–11.
Sectors G6 and G7 will cease mobile service from 1pm to 10pm on Muharram 9. Sector 10-I and surrounding regions will be without service from 6pm-6am.
Shah Allah Ditta will suspend mobile phone service from 2am to 7pm on Muharram 11. Services near Noorpur Shahan/Bari Imam will stopped from 12pm-7pm.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 14 districts would have no cell service on Muharram 9 and 10.
Sadar, Pishtakhara, Hassan Ghari, inner city Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohat, Hangu, and Bannu would continue without services. Blocking until 10pm.
While, Quetta’s local authorities have suspended cellphone services on Muharram 9 and 10 to avoid trouble.
Moreover, The additional chief secretary said the province administration has banned pillion riding in Quetta division from Muharram 1 to Muharram 12 (July 31).
The PTA also banned cellphone services in various Karachi neighbourhoods until Muharram 10 (July 29). They blocked on Muharram 8 and expected to stay stopped on Muharram 9.
Ashura bans pillion riding in Lahore and Sindh.
Cable and landline services will also continue.
