Domestic help torture case: Judge wife’s post-arrest bail plea verdict reserved

ISLAMABAD: An Additional District and Sessions court on Thursday reserved its judgement on Civil Judge Asim Hafeez’s wife, Somia Asim,’s post-arrest bail application for alleged abuse of a teenage house assistant.

Last month, Rizwana’s parents took her to a Lahore hospital with significant bruises, stating that the judge’s wife had tortured her.

Somia appeared before Judge Shaista Kundi today, when her counsel Safai Qazi Dastgir informed the court that the FIR did not include the occurrence date.

Dastgir added, “According to CCTV footage, the girl handed over to her mother by my client.” Some films showed the youngster sitting on a bus station seat and lying down like a healthy person.

He added that his client Somia framed.

“If bugs infected her wounds at home, where did they go at the bus station?” he asked.

Moreover, On the judge’s request, the bus station video shown. The judge ordered the girl’s mother to reveal what happened at the bus station.

While, The mother said that the judge’s wife had complained that Rizwana wasn’t working and requested her return.

“I asked Rizwana why she doesn’t work, but she didn’t respond,” the mother stated.

The lawyer claimed Somia did not mistreat Rizwana and returned her to her parents.

Judge Kundi promised to record everything and ensure justice in this court.

Moreover, Dastagir hoped his client would not hire her. The judge stated that Somia had paid the girl two days prior.

The judge reserved the verdict for 2:00pm today after the arguments.

The civil judge’s wife detained on August 7 after the court revoked her bail, relieving the 14-year-old torture victim’s parents.

Somia Asim, civil judge Asim Hafeez’s wife, had obtained temporary bail to avoid arrest for assaulting and torturing their domestic assistance.
