Quetta: On Thursday, police and rescue officials reported two injuries from a Moti Ram Road explosion in Quetta.

Rescuers reported that a nearby shop caught fire after the explosion.

Police are investigating the blast’s cause.

The police reported that two shop roofs collapsed and an inferno erupted after the bomb in another shop was extinguished.

The blast injured Arsalan, a shopkeeper, and Nazir Ahmed, his assistant.

One victim is critical.

The bomb squad investigated the blast.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Quddus Bizenjo condemned the blast, saying anti-state groups aimed to instill panic before Independence Day on August 14.

He claimed August had seen a rise in terrorist incidents in the province for several years.

“Effective security measures are essential to combat terrorism,” the CM remarked.

Moreover, July was the second deadliest month of 2023, with 124 deaths and 218 injuries, The News reported.

PICSS reported 54 militant incidents last month.

181 civilians and 36 security forces were injured, and 77 civilians and 37 security forces died.

While, 10 extremists killed themselves, and security forces neutralised 12 terrorists and apprehended 46 others, preventing future assaults.

The PICSS study shows an alarming rise in terrorist activity from June 2023.

Terror attacks rose 15%, civilian deaths rose 381%, while security force deaths rose 131%. Civilian injuries rose 583%, while security forces injuries rose 64%.

Five suicide assaults killed 69 people and injured 175 in the preceding month, the most in any month this year. A suicide blast during a JUI-F election rally in Bajaur, KP, killed most of these people.

Militant attacks and deaths rose in Balochistan. PICSS recorded 17 militant assaults in the province, killing 32 individuals, including 22 security forces and seven civilians, and injuring 22 others, including 17 civilians and four security forces.
