Islamabad: On the auspicious occasion of Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day, President Dr. Arif Alvi proclaimed on Saturday a 180-day commutation of prison sentences for prisoners.
According to a statement issued by Aiwan-e-Sadr, the sentences reduced based on Article 45 of the Constitution.
“Sentences would commuted for male prisoners aged 65 or older or who served at least 15 years. Women who have served at least 20 years or are at least 60 years old will receive a pardon. According to the statement.
Prisoners under the age of 18 who had served a third of their sentences would also receive sentence reductions.
However, those convicted of murder, espionage, terrorism, rape, robbery, theft, kidnapping will not be eligible for remission. As well as the convicts of Financial offences, anti-state activities, or causing a loss to the national treasury
Preparations for Independence Day
As Independence Day approaches, a large number of vendors displaying national flags, bunting, flag-colored dresses, and other accessories have set up to attract customers in markets and streets.
Patriotic young people, particularly children, seen around these vendors purchasing flags, bunting, badges, and Jashan-i-Azadi dresses in order to complete their preparations for an appropriate Independence Day celebration.
In conjunction with Independence Day celebrations, Azadi Melas will be conducted throughout the nation in Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi, Pashto, Saraiki, Brahvi, Hindko, Balochi, Shina, and Pahari.
