WASHINGTON, D.C.: On Wednesday, the Miss Universe Organisation said it would stop working with the Indonesian franchise holder. As well as cancel this year’s Malaysia contest. This choice made after contestants said that local organisers sexually harassing them.
The US-based group said that it had decided to end its contract with PT Capella Swastika Karya and Poppy Capella.
“Now that we know what happened at Miss Universe Indonesia, it’s clear that this franchise has not lived up to our brand standards, ethics, or expectations,” MUO wrote on Saturday night.
Poppy Capella is also the Miss Universe Malaysia licence holder.
A lawyer for six Miss Universe Indonesia contestants said earlier in the week that they had filed official complaints with the police. They said that the organisers of the pageant had put them through inappropriate “body checks.”
