Two gold medals for Pakistan in Tent Pegging World Cup

Webdesk: On the third and last day of the Tent Pegging World Cup in South Africa, Pakistan earned two gold medals.

Pakistan also won World Cup Silver after finishing second overall.

Six runs on day 3 of the World Cup saw riders from nine countries competing in Ring and Peg. As well as in Lemon and Peg, and Sword and Lance Relays.

Pakistan’s Tassawur Abbas, Irfan Mehmood, Wajahatullah Khan, and Nasir Abbas dominated from the start and won.

The day began with Ring and Peg. Where riders had to pass through the weapon without touching it. Then pierce it into a peg and take it away.

In this round, Wajahatullah and Tassawur Abbas scored the most, while Irfan Mehmood scored two. On day one, Nasir Abbas was in great form but missed his peg.

The Lemon and Peg category required riders to stab or slice a lemon before hitting the peg. Tassawur Abbas led Pakistan again with 36 points.

Wajahat and Irfan scored 30 apiece after missing their pegs after slicing the lemon, while Nasir Abbas scored 24.

In the relays, Pakistan’s Wajahatullah missed his target in lance category, but in their final run, the Sword Relay — each of the riders successfully pierced and carried the target to take it over the line.

As soon as Pakistan finished the sword relay, spectators and team members sang Pakistan Zindabad to celebrate their gold medal.

Pakistan won the gold medal with 294 points, followed by Saudi Arabia with 289 and India with 276.5.

Pakistan’s Tassawur Abbas was the day’s best rider and won a gold medal on day three for winning 100% of points.

On day two, Pakistan moved up from third to second in the championship table and won the Tent Pegging World Cup Silver Medal with 570 points. Saudi Arabia won the trophy with 581.5 points while India finished third with 548.5 points.
