ISLAMABAD: His office stated President Dr. Arif Alvi advocated for respecting the “spirit of the Constitution” in general election decisions on Monday.
The president met with Caretaker Law and Justice Minister Ahmed Irfan Aslam in the Aiwan-e-Sadr to make the appeal. The conference “discussed many issues” of general elections.
“The President appreciated Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar’s yesterday statement. That the caretaker government would follow the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s ruling on this issue,” the communique said.
Moreover, President Alvi encouraged upholding the “supremacy of the Constitution” and making decisions in accordance with its spirit.
While, The meeting occurred days after President Alvi consulted with legal experts about the Ministry of Law and Justice’s answer to CEC Syed Sikandar Sultan Raja’s election date request.
President Alvi had already written to the government for “advice” on the ECP’s letter, arguing that the president cannot set the polls’ date.
President House stated on X, formerly Twitter, that Alvi wrote the letter to the ministry’s secretary on the ECP’s answer to his letter requesting a meeting to set the election date.
The ECP responded to the president’s letter inviting Chief electoral Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, saying electoral law revisions prevented him from setting poll dates.
