Eight points “Kathmandu (Thimi) Declaration” has been declared by First Mother Language Conference

SJF International mother language conference

Kathmandu: Demanding preserving of Mother Language journalism and Journalists First International Mother Language Journalists Conference held in Kathmandu has declared eight points Kathmandu (Thimi) Declaration.

Journalists from South Asia region demand to declare birth anniversary of first mother language journalist of Nepal Dharmaditya Dharmacharya as an International Mother Language Journalism Day.

They call on governments and all stakeholders to take initiation to develop, preserve and promote mother language journalists and journalism globally. First International Mother Language Journalists Conference organised by National Forum For Newar Journalist in support with SAARC Journalist Forum and Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Journalists held in June first and second 2024 demanded it to all governments and stakeholders of respective countries.

President of NFNJ Nripendra Lal Shrestha, President of SAARC Journalist Forum Raju Lama from Nepal, General Secretary of SJF Md Abdur Rahman from Bangladesh, SJF India Chapter President Anirudha Sudhanshu, likewise Journalist leader of Bhutan and member of SAARC Journalist Forum Kenley Dema have signed the declaration and demanded all respective governments and stakeholders to take the declaration seriously to be implemented.

First International Mother Language Journalists Conference was inaugurated by Former President of Nepal Bidhya Devi Bhandari and closing session by DPM and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha. Conference has been concluded in the presence of more than 50 journalists from abroad and 100 journalists from Nepal.

Surendra Bhakta Shrestha President of organizing committee of conference told that declaration will be submitted to head of governments and stakeholders for its implementation.

Sunil Maharjan vice president of NFNJ said that this historical conference of mother language journalism is continuity of previous conferences and it will adopt the legacy of those conferences on mother language journalism held in 2018 and 2022.
