U.S. Commission on Religious Freedom Recommends Sanctions on RAW for Targeting Sikh Separatists
Washington (International Desk): The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has recommended sanctions on India’s intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), revealing that it has been involved in extrajudicial killings, targeted assassinations, and persecution of minorities.
According to media reports, the recently released report highlights that RAW has systematically targeted Sikhs, Muslims, Dalits, and Christians, leading to severe violations of international human rights. The report further claims that RAW, in collaboration with government institutions, has manipulated Indian media, suppressed internal dissent through covert surveillance, fabricated legal cases, and enforced a policy of intimidation.
The report states that attacks on minorities and hate crimes in India have surged by 70%, with over 1,200 recorded incidents, directly implicating RAW’s involvement. The U.S. commission has warned that RAW’s activities pose a serious threat to human rights and global peace, not only within India but internationally as well.
The report alleges that more than 1,100 minority leaders have been targeted, and data related to minority rights has been deliberately altered to spread propaganda on a global scale.4o
