New Delhi: At the conclusion of the two-day meeting of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the foreign policy of the Modi government was harshly criticized. The resolution stated that Modi’s government prioritized personal interests and publicity over national policy, leading to India’s global embarrassment.
Particularly, the meeting between Modi and Donald Trump in Washington was criticized, where Trump referred to India as a “tariff abuser” and used derogatory language. The resolution emphasized that while India-US relations are crucial, these ties should not come at the cost of national interests.
The resolution also pointed out that in recent months, the US has imposed an additional 26% tariff on Indian exports, and if India reduces import taxes in response, it will harm farmers and local industries.
Concern was also raised about the mistreatment of Indian expatriates in the US, who are being deported with chains and handcuffs. The statements of Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar in support of the US government were also termed as disrespectful.
Furthermore, the Modi government’s claim of showing a “red eye” to China was criticized for its failure on important issues like the Brahmaputra dam and the occupation of 2,000 kilometers of land in Ladakh.
The increasing influence of militants in Bangladesh and the silence of the Modi government on the Israel-Palestine conflict were also severely criticized.
