In the UK, a mother was held in police custody for more than seven hours after taking away her daughters’ iPads to encourage them to focus on schoolwork.
Vanessa Brown, a 50-year-old teacher, said she was accused of theft and taken to Staines police station, where she was searched and fingerprinted. Police even visited her daughters’ school and questioned them during class.
Authorities later located the devices at her 80-year-old mother’s home, whom Vanessa says was treated like a criminal. After her release, she was banned from contacting her daughters as part of the ongoing investigation.
She described the entire incident as deeply distressing and “completely unprofessional.”
