China Hits Back at Trump: “Stop Threats, We Won’t Bow in Trade War

Beijing:
China has responded firmly to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest tariff threats, declaring that intimidation and pressure tactics will not resolve the situation.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated, “China does not seek conflict, but we are not afraid of it either. Fair dialogue must be based on mutual respect.” He added that no one wins in a trade war.

Trump’s recent decision to raise tariffs on Chinese goods up to 145% has been met with a strong counteraction from Beijing, imposing up to 125% tariffs on U.S. products. Some goods now face a combined tariff of 245%.

China’s Ministry of Commerce dismissed Washington’s moves as a “pointless numbers game” and reiterated that China will stand firm, refusing to be coerced into submission.

Meanwhile, China reported a stronger-than-expected GDP growth of 5.4% in the first quarter of 2025, credited to accelerated exports ahead of the tariffs.
