ISLAMABAD (Political Reporter) A district and sessions court in Islamabad placed Sheikh Rashid, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), under judicial detention for 14 days.
Rashid, a senior aide of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PIT) Chairman Imran Khan, is facing serious charges after accusing PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari of plotting Khan’s assassination.
Raja Inayat Ur Rehman, President of the PPP Rawalpindi Division, had filed a case against Rashid at Islamabad’s Aabpara Police Station.
Under tight security, Islamabad Police produced the AML chief in front of Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabbir.
In Muree and Karachi too, the ex-interior minister is facing prosecution. He has been charged with threatening police officers in Muree, and he has been listed in two different FIRs for making “offensive” and “filthy” remarks about Foreign Minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
The police requested a five-day extension in Rashid’s physical remand at the start of the session.
The investigative officer informed the court that voice-matching tests had been completed and that the photogrammetry test had been postponed.
