Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice-President and Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz has addressed the media in regards to her political aspirations. In a recent informal interaction with journalists, she stated that her focus is not on becoming the prime minister or the chief minister in the upcoming general elections in Pakistan.

When asked about her son, Junaid Safdar, Maryam shared that he has no intentions of joining politics for the time being. Junaid, a Cambridge graduate, has a wealth of education from UK universities and recently celebrated his grand valima ceremony in Lahore. Maryam emphasized that the foundation and identity of her party, PML-N, is based on their performance.

Maryam expressed her surprise at the enthusiasm and numbers of the people who welcomed her back to the homeland after her time in London. She acknowledged the focus of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on good governance and acknowledged the challenges faced by the coalition government in addressing the issue of rising inflation.

In response to a question, Maryam announced that PML-N will be forming its own IT wing to counter the propaganda of their opponents. She also spoke about her relationship with Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, calling him her “elder brother”. Maryam stated her mission as strengthening PML-N across the country, including in Karachi and Sindh, and finding the best candidates for the next elections.

When asked about the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), Maryam stated that it is not currently an electoral alliance. She avoided commenting on her husband, Captain (retd) Safdar’s recent controversial statement and emphasized that Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N supremo, would soon return and continue to do politics based on principles.
