Webdesk: Amna Ilyas, a Pakistani actress has always spoken out against how many people treat people with dark skin badly.
The 35-year-old star has had her fair share of prejudice and sexism. Her dark skin and sharp features make her one of the most beautiful faces in Pakistani entertainment.
The actress from Saat Din Mohabbat In recently went on The Talk Talk Show. In the show she criticised the casting producers. She specified those who wouldn’t choose actors with darker or dusky skin. She talked about how hard it was for her to get in the business. Ilyas herself had been treated badly more than once because her skin wasn’t bright.
The actress said, “If we look at our entertainment industry, every other actor and actress is fair and tall”. Ilyas said that this is because the fraternity has its own ideas about what is beautiful.
Even though the actress has done well in both TV and movies, Ilyas did much better in movies than in dramas. The Zinda Bhaag actress said this about item numbers: “I don’t know what this word “item” means. We call it a dance performance, which comes from the entertainment industry next door, where calling someone a “item” is kind of a compliment.
“For me, it’s a musical performance,” the actress made sure to say.
“I don’t want to associate something bad with the word. “I agree that the performance is about a girl dancing to entertain, but why do you have to call it an item number?” asked the model.
Ilyas went on to say, “I think all Hollywood musicals are fun and serve a purpose in the movie. They also dance, but if we show that in our movies, all hell breaks loose.”
If a movie needs an item song, you have to make one, but if it doesn’t, like in Baaji and Zinda Bhaag, you don’t have to,” Ilyas said in the end.
