Islamabad: Hassaan Niazi was arrested in front of an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Monday. He is the nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and is in charge of legal matters for the party.

Police sources said that he was taken into custody for “misbehaving with the police and resisting” at a checkpoint. They also said that he had been moved to an unknown place.

Niazi was arrested after he showed up at the ATC. Where cases against PTI leaders and workers filed at the Ramna police station in Islamabad were being heard.

Advocate Faisal Chaudhry has asked the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to free the PTI leader by filing a petition. The petition said that after Hasaan Niazi got bail in a case, the police took him away.

Senior PTI leaders like Shibli Faraz, Omar Ayub, Raja Khurram. Aamir Mehmood Kiani, and Farrukh Habib also went to the court of ATC judge Raja Jawad Abbas to get bail. Court granted them bail.

Court granted them bail until April 3 with surety bonds of Rs50,000.

During the hearings, the ATC judge said, “There are so many suspects that we’ll have to go back and check the history.”

All of the leaders listed above, as well as members of the party. They and others were charged with terrorism for the violence that broke out outside the courthouse on Saturday, when Khan was there for the Toshakhana case.

Workers from the PTI had fought with police and damaged public property. Outside the courthouse, they also set fire to 10 police motorcycles and turned over a police officer’s car.
