Webdesk: Midjourney, an AI that makes images. Stopped giving users free trials because there were so many new users and “extraordinary demand and trial abuse.”

David Holz, the CEO and founder of Midjourney, told The Verge that the company did this because “a lot of people were making fake accounts to get free images.”

At first, people thought that the decision to stop free trials of the service was made because people made fake images. That went viral of Donald Trump being arrested and the pope wearing a cool jacket. Holz, on the other hand, made it clear that the most recent version 5 of Midjourney. Which made realistic images, was included in the free trial offered to users.

The CEO and founder said, “It was probably because of a popular how-to video in China”. At the same time, there was a short-term shortage of GPUs. When the two things came together, the service for paid users went down.”

In Midjourney version 5, errors in the images were fixed, making the lighting and fabric look more real. The system can make thousands of pictures of famous people together. Which has led to thousands of pictures going viral in the past few weeks.

Even though the AI platform hasn’t done much to stop the fake images that go viral and end up in politics, they do have a list of words that are banned because users in those countries have complained about them.

Over time, the list has grown to keep fake images from being made and spread like wildfire.
