Amman: Syrian state media said on Sunday that the loud explosions heard in the Mezzah. That is a suburb west of the Syrian capital Damascus were caused by a car bomb.
State media reported that police sources said that no one was hurt by the homemade bomb (IED).
Residents said earlier that they heard loud explosions near the Mezzah military airport. They also saw a high plume of black smoke.
A witness said that the blast happened near a busy restaurant and a busy roundabout.
It wasn’t clear who the rare blast in a wealthy area where high-level government and security officials live was meant to hurt.
During the first few years of the 12-year conflict, bombs were often used to attack the capital. However, since the state took back control of most of the country, these attacks have stopped.
