Islamabad: On Friday, ISPR said that the main intelligence agency has detained a high-value target (HVT) Gulzar Imam alias Shambay.
The military’s media wing revealed that he was a hardened militant. As well as the creator and leader of the proscribed Baloch National Army (BNA), formed after the BRA and UBA merged (UBA).
“BNA had been responsible for dozens of violent terrorist attacks in Pakistan. It includes attacks on law enforcement agencies (LEAs) installations in Panjgur and Noshki,” the ISPR claimed.
Gulzar Imam was Brahamdagh Bugti’s deputy in Baloch Republican Army (BRA) till 2018.
The military’s media wing said the arrested militant founded Baloch Raji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS) and ran it.
“His visits to Afghanistan and India are also on the record; his linkages with hostile intelligence agencies (HIAs) currently investigated,” it said.
According to the ISPR, hostile agencies also tried to use him against Pakistan and its interests.
“Apprehended after an innovatively conceived, carefully planned and meticulously executed operation, that spanned months over various geographical locations,” the statement added.
“Gulzar Imam Shambay’s arrest is a major setback for BNA and other militant groups trying to destabilise Balochistan’s hard-won peace.”
“Apprehension of a militant leader of this stature demonstrates the capability and resolve of LEAs to uproot the menace of terrorism as well as speaks volumes about the successes garnered through supreme sacrifices of unsung heroes,” the military’s media wing stated.
