Webdesk: France and Beijing appealed for restraint and diplomacy to end a year-long Ukrainian crisis. Said crisis has killed thousands and displaced millions, Anadolu Agency reported on Friday.

During a vital visit, President Macron met with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss methods to end the terrible conflict in Ukraine that began in February 2022 with the Russian “special military operation.”

During the conference, an official communique stated, “both sides have agreed to strengthen political dialogue. As well as promote mutual political trust, jointly promote world security and stability, and respond to global challenges together.”

“Both sides support all efforts to restore peace in Ukraine on the basis of international law. As well as the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter,” the joint statement said.

Xi Jinping made the statement after meeting with Macron in Guangzhou.

“China would welcome France presenting concrete proposals on a political resolution to the crisis”. Xi said during the bilateral meeting, reiterating China’s desire for a cease-fire in Ukraine.

“The continuation of the war would be of no benefit to any party.” Xi stated.

Macron addressed Sun Yat-Sen University students in Guangzhou while in China.

“the war in Ukraine was a clear violation of international law and called for joint efforts for the preservation and reconstruction of the international order focused on peace and stability.” Macron said students.

China has not called the conflict “war” or “occupation” and abstained in a UN Security Council vote on Russia’s annexation of areas of Ukraine.

Moreover, China has not denounced the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

China delivered a 12-point statement on the Ukrainian crisis’s anniversary outlining Beijing’s views on a political settlement. It included respecting each other’s territories, halting the fighting, reviving diplomatic engagements, and ending the humanitarian situation.

China also stressed nuclear power plant safety, grain supply, and ending unilateral sanctions, saying “dialogue and negotiation are the only viable solutions to the Ukraine crisis.”
