Webdesk: US policemen report that five people slain and six others injured in a shooting at a bank in Louisville, Kentucky.
Six individuals, including a police officer, transported to the hospital, according to Louisville Metro Police Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey, who also confirmed that the alleged shooter deceased.
While describing the incident, Humphrey stated that the first officers on the scene “encountered active gunshots still fired inside the location at that time.”
While he confirmed that the shooter deceased, the authorities did not yet know the specifics of his passing.
According to a local television station, witnesses who escaped the building reported hearing gunfire inside.
Local media reported that injured victims of the gunshot transported away in ambulances.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear tweeted that he was heading to the scene. He was en route “LMPD has verified a shooting incident with multiple casualties in downtown Louisville. I am currently en route. Please pray for the impacted families and the city of Louisville.”
In the city of 625,000 people, the shooting occurred in a building on East Main Street. That street also contains the Old National Bank.
The authorities investigating the incident believe it may have involved workplace violence. According to NBC, two high-ranking officials believe that the suspect may be an employee.
The possibility that the assailant had mental health issues is also suspected, they said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also confirmed that it is investigating the incident.
