LAHORE: In what seems to be a U-turn on the part of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the leaders of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies have asked the courts to return the legislatures, A newspaper reported, citing Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the party’s president.

“KP and Punjab Assembly speakers kept Imran Khan in the loop. Then they asked the courts to bring back the assemblies,” said Elahi. He was speaking to the media after attending a hearing in a case against him.

He did not say more about when or in which court the petitions were made, though.

Elahi made fun of the Sharif family by saying that they always used politics to get back at people. “It is their habit to make up cases against political opponents and round them up.”

In response to a question, he said that the Sharifs did things that were against the law first. As well as they started to talk, but it’s possible that they didn’t know that this was Imran Khan’s party.

“Imran Khan told the team negotiating with the PDM that if they find bad intentions, they should leave the talks and come back.”

In answer to a question, he said that everyone was waiting for the Supreme Court’s ruling on elections to be put into place. The highest court said that all the leaders should get together and make a decision. If they didn’t, he said, the court would make a decision on its own.

Elahi said that Imran agreed with his ideas and gave party seats after talking with him.

Fawad Chaudry’s Response

While talks with the government were going on, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry rejected that the PTI had asked the courts to bring back the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Fawad criticised the media for bad reporting in a tweet. He said that no TV station cared to check the facts of the story before airing it.

“This is how our news is right now.

Since this morning, there have been reports that the [former] chief ministers of [Punjab and KP] have filed petitions to bring back the province assemblies. But no one knows what law can be used to bring back the meetings,” he wrote on Twitter.
