Webdesk: Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi would get a “written guarantee” from BCCI supremo Jay Shah. That India will play in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Before agreeing to play the ODI World Cup in India later this year.
According to Press Trust of India, BCCI is contemplating Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata for the October 5-2023 World Cup. Sethi has ordered to be stern. AS the ACC has yet to approve the “Hybrid Model” for the Asia Cup. In this model, India plays in UAE and Pakistan plays in their home land.
A reliable source stated Sethi will meet with ACC and ICC officials in Dubai on May 8.
Sethi will advocate for Pakistan’s position that they will not play their World Cup matches in India until the BCCI and ICC guarantee India’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
Moreover, The PCB source said Sethi met with government officials. They advised Sethi on whether Pakistan should participate in the Asia Cup if its not held in Lahore and Dubai as requested by the PCB under their hybrid model plan to the ACC.
The government has empowered ACC members to vigorously promote hosting the Asia Cup in September.
The PCB chairman would tell the ACC members that either they approve Pakistan’s hybrid proposal or they won’t compete this year if it is moved from Pakistan. He won’t postpone Asia Cup.
Sethi won’t allow ACC delays in determining Asia Cup venues and schedules. He now knows that Pakistan would not play in the Asia Cup without matches in Pakistan, according to the source.
Sethi returns from Dubai on May 11 and awaits BCCI’s promises.
Sethi’s position underlines the PCB’s sincerity about the Indian cricket team’s 2025 Champions Trophy participation, which could effect the ODI World Cup in India.
