Webdesk: Ghulam Sarwar Khan supported the decision to prosecute the May 9 vandals under the Pakistan Army Act.

“Whatever the authorities decide […] if the trial can conducted legally under the army act, then it should take place,” he told Shahzad Iqbal of Geo News when asked if the suspects should tried under these laws.

“They [the perpetrators] should punished,” he said of the protesters who smashed and burned military installations following the May 9 detention of PTI chairman Imran Khan on corruption charges.

“I strongly condemn the attacks that occurred in response to the arrest of PTI leader Imran Khan. Especially the acts of vandalism against State property and the assaults on Pakistan Army buildings,” he said. He proposed the establishment of a judicial commission, ideally at the level of the Supreme Court. But failing that, at the level of the high court, to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the violent events.

The military designated May 9 as “Black Day” and has resolved to prosecute the protesters under the army act. According to Army Chief of Staff General Asim Munir, the legal process has already begun.
