Webdesk: Due to his reputation as an auteur James Gunn’s hiring as DC Studios co-CEO has excited fans.

Gunn and Peter Safran’s earliest designs for their new movie universe reveal a creative ambition. It distinguishes them from Warner Bros. Discovery’s recent superhero projects.

“Superman: Legacy,” directed by Gunn and planned to launch the series in 2025, will unveil their complete vision, but Gunn clearly committed to his new job.

Gunn listed his top five comic book films in a GQ interview. The list included “Superman” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,”. But Gunn stressed that the genre is more than just superheroes.

Gunn praised Park Chan-wook’s “Oldboy” as a great comic book adaptation, even though he didn’t know it was based on Garon Tsuchiya’s manga.

He complimented the picture for redefining action and helping Korean cinema rise, as well as its cinematic qualities, colourful graphics, frightening yet beautiful aesthetic, and shocking ending. Gunn says it’s flawless.

Gunn also mentioned David Cronenberg’s “A History of Violence,” based on Josh Wagner and Vince Locke’s graphic novel. Like “Oldboy,” Gunn approached it as a film without knowing its comic book roots. He could appreciate its greatness as a standalone film without preconceived expectations.
