Webdesk: On May 21, one of Kurt Cobain’s guitars from the Nevermind era sold at auction for $595,000.
The black Fender Stratocaster auctioned off at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York during Julien’s Auctions’ Music Icons event. The guitar was worth $60,000 when it was first put up for sale.
The guitar signed by Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, and Krist Novoselic, and it also has a special note from Cobain to Mark Lanegan of the Screaming Trees.
The auction house said that the neck plate is engraved with “Boddah Lives,” which is a reference to Cobain’s imaginary friend from his youth. Its kept in a hard black case that says “Abort Christ” on the top.
Cobain’s guitars always sell for a lot of money at sales. In 2020, his famous MTV Unplugged 1959 Martin D-18E sold for $6 million, which set a new record. In a similar way, the 1969 Fender Mustang from the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” film sold for $4.5 million last year.
There were also items from the lives of Eddie Van Halen, Elvis Presley, Freddie Mercury, Bill Wyman, and Janet Jackson for sale at the three-day auction.
