Trump’s CNN comments backfire as E. Jean Carroll seeks further damages.

Webdesk: E. Jean Carroll, who won $5 million in damages from former President Donald J. Trump, is seeking more compensation after his insulting remarks on CNN a day after the judgement.

Carroll filed in Manhattan federal court to increase Trump’s financial penalties. It is after a civil jury found him guilty of sexual abuse and defamation on May 9. The jury ordered Trump to pay Carroll $2 million for sexual abuse and $3 million for defamation.

Carroll’s 2019 defamation case against Trump is overseen by the same judge as the civil trial. Trump’s 2019 accusation of raping Carroll in a Manhattan department store changing room sparked this lawsuit. The case remains unresolved despite appeals.

Carroll’s counsel wrote to the judge that Trump threatened to sue Carroll or seek fines. Trump called Carroll’s account “fake” and “made-up” on CNN. Despite photographic evidence of their familiarity, he denied seeing Carroll, calling her a “wack job” and calling the civil trial a “rigged deal.”

Trump’s post-verdict defamatory statements show his strong animosity for Carroll, according to the court petition. The complaint claims that such conduct warrants a large punitive damages judgement to penalise Trump and discourage him from defamation, as well as deter others.

Trump’s counsel appealed the verdict after the verdict. Carroll’s counsel underlined the urgency of pursuing the defamation claim to address the judicial system’s undermining when defamatory words go unpunished.

Moreover, Carroll’s motion seeks to modify her 2019 defamation case to incorporate Trump’s CNN and Truth Social remarks and the jury’s verdict. These additions are necessary to accurately portray Trump’s constant defamation.

While, Carroll called Trump’s CNN comments vulgar and harmful in a recent interview. She stressed holding Trump accountable and supporting the jury’s verdict.
