Webdesk: Microsoft says Chinese state-sponsored hacker outfit “Volt Typhoon” is attacking important US cyber infrastructure.
Hackers have targeted multiple businesses to gain intelligence and disrupt US-Asian relations.
Microsoft recommended affected firms to close or replace compromised account credentials and warned that the hackers’ main goal is espionage rather than disruption.

Since mid-2021, “Volt Typhoon” has conducted intelligence-gathering attacks. Microsoft advised clients to change or cancel compromised accounts immediately.
Moreover, The hackers use an undiscovered weakness in FortiGuard, a popular cybersecurity suite, to infiltrate firms, steal user credentials, and attempt to gain unauthorised access to other systems.
While, Hackers’ main goal appears to be long-term espionage and unnoticed access. The attacks affected communications, transportation, maritime, and government sectors.
In 2020, Chinese government-backed hackers targeted Covington and Burling, a prominent law practise.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) warned that Chinese hackers continue to threaten American intellectual property in a joint statement with international and domestic intelligence services.
CISA Director Jen Easterly noted China’s history of cyberattacks to steal sensitive data from businesses globally.
