Pakistan will talk to ICC bosses about a “nonsensical” financial model

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi will discuss the proposed financial model (2024-2027) with top ICC officials in Lahore tomorrow, The News reported Monday.

While, At the board’s headquarters, ICC Chairman Greg Barclay, Chief Executive Geoff Allardice, and ICC Director Sethi will meet PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer and other officials.

Moreover, The PCB chief has questioned the suggested distribution model’s distribution criteria.

Ex-ICC chief Ehsan Mani called it “nonsensical” and urged the cricket governing body to reconsider it.

During the ICC’s two-day visit to Pakistan, well-placed board sources told that the proposed financial distribution scheme will discussed along with other cricket issues.

The proposed financial model gives Pakistan 5.75% and India 38.5%. England (6.89%) and Australia (6.25%) estimated to get the most ICC funds during 2024-27.

Pakistan claims the greatest ICC rankings, notably in white-ball cricket.

“Our white-ball cricketers top-ranked. Pakistan ranks 2nd in ODI and 3rd in T20. We get less. An official said the PCB wants to know which criteria used for such a model.

The October World Cup will discussed. Pakistan’s position is clear—participation in the World Cup in India depends on government approval. The official stated a neutral site may used.

Barclay will visit Pakistan for the first time, unlike Allardice, who visited Pakistan frequently as ICC general manager—cricket and then ICC chief executive.

Since 2008, no ICC chairman has visited Pakistan. The top two ICC officials will also visit Pakistan cricket headquarters for the first time since October 2004.
