Webdesk: At Mat Gala 2023, R&B singer Doja Cat paid tribute to the late designer Karl Lagerfeld by wearing a dress based on his cat Choupette, who was his favourite muse.
In honour of the Met Gala’s “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” theme, Doja Cat wore a silver dress with a ruffled skirt and a hood with cat ears that was made in collaboration with Oscar de la Renta’s co-creative director.
The dress made by hand with 350,000 silver and white bugle beads, and it took more than 5,000 hours to make.
Alan Nelson, Doja Cat’s stylist, told Vogue that no one would make more sense as Karl’s cat than Doja Cat. “Oscar and Karl were very close, and the look feels very Oscar, but also like something Chanel would do at a couture show.”
Doja Cat also wore prosthetics to look like Choupette. The ‘Kiss me more’ singer said its her idea. She worked with a prosthetic artist to get the right shape. Many people wanted to see Choupette at the event, but her reps said on Instagram that she would rather stay at home.
The Met Gala 2023 will held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It will honour Karl Lagerfeld, who was a fashion icon and had an impact on the fashion industry.
