Islamabad: The federal government blamed the Punjab caretaker government for a late-night raid on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi’s Lahore home.
The party outraged when Punjab Police raided Elahi’s home Friday night to arrest him.
After Sohail Zafar Chattha, Director General of Punjab’s Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), left with the police, the six-hour police action ended.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar met with PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who is leading negotiations with the ruling alliance to hold nationwide elections on the same date.
Dar apologised for raiding the PTI president’s house and violating chadar and char dewari, a term for family dignity.
Qureshi informed Dar of Elahi’s family’s feelings about the “illegal attack” at their home during the meeting.
Dar said in the meeting that the federal government had nothing to do with Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s house attack.
The Punjab caretaker government raided, the finance minister said.
Dar said he would inform the ruling alliance’s leadership of the PTI’s concerns about the police action and get back to the opposition party soon.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal accused PTI leaders of “using women and children” to avoid arrest.
The federal minister told that Imran Khan and Elahi not arrested when police raided their home.
“We never used wheelchairs or cried on TV,” he said, criticising PTI leaders for protesting arrests.
Moreover, He said PML-N leaders like Nawaz Sharif faced “bogus cases and political victimisation” under the PTI-led government.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain, PML-Q leader and nephew of Elahi, said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called him to condemn the police raid on the same programme.
