Court notifies PTI Chairman, Bushra Bibi in marriage case

ISLAMABAD: A federal district and sessions court on Tuesday admitted a lawsuit against former prime minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s “illegal” marriage.

Civil Judge Qudratullah summoned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and his wife on July 20 after announcing the judgement.

Last week, Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Islamabad Muhammad Azam Khan remanded the matter to a civil judge. He dismissed another civil court’s ruling finding a marriage petition inadmissible.

Muhammad Hanif said that Bushra Bibi، divorced in November 2017 and married Khan on January 1, 2018. “Which against the Sharia and Muslim norms.”

The complainant submitted Mufti Muhammad Saeed’s and Awn Chaudhry’s statements to the court.

Saeed, who performed the couple’s Nikah, revealed that the PTI head wedded Bushra Bibi during her iddat despite knowing everything.

Moreover, Saeed told a lower court that he married Bushra Bibi on January 1, 2018, after a woman claiming to the former first lady’s sister assured him.

“Then the former premier contacted me again on February 2018 and requested me to solemnise his Nikah with Bushra Bibi again as the first time was against the Shariah,” Saeed told the court.

Bushra Bibi’s Iddat hadn’t ended the first time the Nikah solemnised.

He quoted Khan as claiming that Bushra Bibi divorced on November 2017. There was a “prediction” that the PTI chairman would become Pakistan’s prime minister if he married her.

Mufti Saeed added that the first Nikah was invalid since it was based on “prediction”.
