Washington:
Amid ongoing US-China tensions, a light yet ironic controversy has erupted — this time, over fashion.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who recently made headlines for her strong anti-China remarks, found herself at the center of a social media storm after Chinese diplomat Zhang Zhisheng claimed that the dress she wore was made in China.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Zhang shared her photo with the caption:
“Blaming China is business, but buying from China is life.”
He even uploaded images of a similar red and black lace dress being sold on Chinese websites, stating the lace was manufactured in Ma Bu, a town in China.
The internet reacted swiftly. Some accused her of hypocrisy, while others called it a fashion coincidence. One user commented:
“She speaks against China but wears it on her sleeve.”
Others argued the dress might be inspired by a French design, saying availability on Chinese websites doesn’t confirm the origin.
As Karoline continues to lead US messaging against Beijing, this wardrobe revelation has unexpectedly added fuel to the ongoing debate — one that may or may not get an official response from the White House.
